Marshmallow Geometry

Category: Engineering, 3-5yr

GOAL: To explore the concept of geometry and learn about the properties of different shapes.

  • Pretzel Sticks (toothpicks are easier to build with so grab them if you have some on hand)
  • Mini Marshmallows
  • Card Stock
  • Marker

1. Draw 4 easy 2D shapes on a card stock and label each one (Square, Triangle, Isosceles, Rectangle, etc.)

2. Let children build the figures by attaching marshmallows and sticks together and learn the names of each different shape.

Explore the characteristics of different shapes by going through how many sides and vertices each shape has, whether they have parallel lines or perpendicular ones, and how long their sides are.
